
Sigma Kappa
![]() | Sigma Kappa was founded November 9, 1874 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Our founders are Ida Fuller Pierce, Mary Caffrey Low Carver, Elizabeth Gorham Hoag, Louise Helen Coburn, and Frances Elliot Mam Hall. Sigma Kappa’s colors are maroon and lavender. The open motto is “one heart, one way” and our symbols are the dove. The purpose of Sigma Kappa is to provide women lifelong opportunities and support for social, intellectual, and spiritual development by bringing women together to positively impact our communities. The values of Sigma Kappa are: personal growth, friendship, service, and loyalty; bound by a promise. The West Virginia University Theta Chi chapter was founded April 21, 1991. Though we are one of the youngest chapters on campus, we are continuing to grow. |
Sigma Kappa has 3 philanthropies: Gerontology (the study of aging) with a focus on Alzheimer's disease research and programs directed at improving the lives of older citizens; Inherit the Earth; Maine Seacoast Mission. President: Sarah Sepkowski | ![]() |
